Wine Tour of the Island of Sardegna -
with Grape Tours in May 2024
- 6 nights (6 full days)

Join Italian Wine Scholar, Rebecca Christophersen Gouttenoire, on a trip through the entire island of Sardegna, from south to north over 6 full days of wine touring.

We will visit wine or two wineries a day, learn all about the native grapes, stay in charming Inns in various locations, eat our way through the island - a full experience of this beautiful Mediterranean island and its bright colourful people.

Day 1 – Monday, May 27 - 2024

Cagliari to Giudeo beach

We start our wine tour from Cagliari in the morning, so you may want to arrive a few days before if you want to get acquainted with the town.

We head to Cantina Audayra for our first winery visit with a nice long visit and lunch.

We head to Sardinia's southern tip and the region of Sulcis famous for the Carignano grape. We'll stay by the seaside in a lovely 4-star hotel overlooking the famous beaches. A chance for a nice hike or a quick swim before dining on local specialities and wines.

Day 2 – Tuesday, May 28 - 2024

Sulcis to Oristano

We set out on a nice ride and stop at the region's best-known winery, Santadi to taste the top Carignano. In the afternoon we head north and stop in an ultra-modern winery, Cantina Su'entu.

We head for Oristano where we will stay in a historical residence right in the center of town.

Free evening/dinner on your own at one of the many little eateries.

Day 3 – Wednesday, May 29 - 2024

Obscure wine styles and grapes

First, we stop at Oro di Cabras to learn about a local delicacy, the bottarga (roe). We then visit the Cantina Cortini winery that produces a peculiar sherry-like wine, Vernaccia di Oristano.

We will feast on local produce at a farm, Il Giglio, where all the products are homegrown or sourced locally. Take a nap towards our next destination in the center of the island.

In the afternoon we visit Fradiles, a winery that grows little-known native varieties.

That evening we’ll check into our local Inn, Funtanedda, in the mountains and as you may very well be still full from lunch, the evening is free/on your own (a few eateries nearby).

Day 4 – Thursday, May 30 - 2024

Cheese, wine & art in central Sardinia

After breakfast, we dive into Sardinia’s amazing Pecorino cheeses at extraordinary cheese maker Erkìles. Further ahead on the mountain roads we’ll stop at one of Sardinia’s best small winemakers, Giuseppe Sedilesu, and we immerse ourselves in the local Canonau grape. After a lovely tasting served with local products, we’ll check-in at our little B&B (Sa Rosada). There will be an afternoon excursion to a little village well known for its wall paintings where we’ll take a walk around town and admire the art.

Dinner will be at the lovely Slow Food restaurant in our B&B.

Day 5 – Friday, May 31 - 2024

White Vermentino in the North

We head to the north of Sardegna and on the way we grab a farm lunch. As we’ve reached the island’s only DOCG area, we’ll be ready for some fresh Vermentino wines and we’ll visit the great Capichera winery. In the afternoon we’ll check into our countryside resort where we will be able to relax and have a free evening. The resort has a lovely restaurant where you can dine under the stars (weather permitting).

Day 6 – Saturday, June 1 - 2024

Winery lunch & Alghero

We visit the Tenute Dettori winery and enjoy a tasting at their Restaurant Agricolo Kent’Annos, overlooking the sea and Corsica to the north.
